Franschhoek is known as the food and wine capital of South Africa – for good reason, but the village and surrounding valley also offer an abundance of activities and outings to suit everybody’s taste and energy levels!

Here is a list of some alternatives to the fine dining and wining offered in this eclectic village:

There are various ways to get active. We have 2 bikes which we will gladly give you for free (if available). We will also help you plan Walking Tours to the vineyards or hikes in the mountains. Speak to us.

From Gabled Cape Dutch homes, to historic cellars, churches and homesteads – Le Quartier Français’s bespoke guided tour will take you through on a tour through history; from the pre-colonial settlers, The Dutch East India Company and the French Huguenots to local architecture and the apartheid era; or visit the site of Nelson Mandela’s first walk of Freedom at the Groot Drakenstein Prison.

Hike in the Mont Rochelle Nature Reserve to see spectacular views across the entire valley; or take a stroll on the Cat se Pad walking trail; hire a bicycle from Franschhoek Cycles and ride through the vineyards, mountains and forests surrounding the village (guided or self-directed); or visit the Berg River Dam.

Marise, our fully qualified beauty therapist offers you the luxury of a full range of beauty therapies and massages in the comfort of your guest room. Reservation required. Please click on the icon below to download the pricelist.

Watch potter, David Walters, in action in his studio gallery, or visit the current exhibition at Grande Provence, Art in the Yard, Holden Manz or any of the many galleries along the main road.

Visit the informal market in the centre of the village, next to the town hall, for hand-crafted curios from all over Africa; play Boule, listen to music, taste olives or pick up a second-hand book from the Saturday morning market at the NG Kerk; or on a Sunday morning visit The White House for an artisanal food market.

Take hop on, hop off tour of the winelands with Franschhoek’s Wine Tram; or visit the Franschhoek Motor Museum at L’Ormarins before catching their tram through this picturesque farm, stopping at Antonij Rupert’s and Terro del Capo’s tasting rooms.
